How to Verify an Official App Download Source
iOS Install Field Guide
App Store, TestFlight, profiles, and permissions explained before install.
When people search for an app download, the first result is not always the safest result. A careful official-source check only takes a few minutes and can prevent installing an impersonated or repackaged app.
1. Compare the publisher name
Look at the developer name on Google Play, Apple App Store, and the developer's official website. If the names differ, search for a clear explanation before installing.
2. Check the domain and page context
Official pages usually have support links, privacy information, release notes, and a consistent brand identity. Thin pages that only push a download button deserve extra caution.
3. Be careful with mirror wording
Words such as mod, cracked, unlocked, cheat, or unlimited usually mean the package has been altered or redistributed outside the official release path.
4. Keep a small record
For important apps, record the app name, publisher, store URL, version, and date checked. This makes future updates easier to verify.
